Accommodation while in Ioannina

Below are your options for accomodation while taking part in the Erasmus programme.

(Option 1) Renting Rooms for Students: The proposed Hall of Renting Rooms are:

  1. Matsas Rooms (this is in the city centre, but a bit further from the University and the Hospitals - the University and Hospital is about 4 kilometers away from the city center)
  2. Fylira rooms (this is in the city centre, but a bit further from the University and the Hospitals - the University and Hospital is about 4 kilometers away from the city center)
  3. Patriko rooms (this is in the city centre, but a bit further from the University and the Hospitals - the University and Hospital is about 4 kilometers away from the city center)
  4. Pavlos rooms (this is about 3 kilometers from the City Center but there are frequent bus services)
  5. Kentrikon (this is a more expensive rooms)
  6. Hagiati (this is a more expensive rooms)

All rooms are self-catering, have en suite toilet and shower, include furniture (bed, closet, desk, chairs, tv, fridge, bed linen, free cleaning at least once per week) all these apartments are either newly built or recently refurbished. The monthly rental price usually includes electricity, water bills and heating, but you will need to confirm this, so need to query this with owners. The prices that appear in the websites do not apply to you as the University negotiates each year cheaper prices for students – an indicative price range for Single bed rooms are 300-350 euros per month and double bed rooms 450-600 euros per month (the double room includes two semi-double beds and two students can share the room as to make this more economic if they wish e.g. 250-300 euros each per month). These rooms once agreed will be available to you upon arrival and you will need to pre-pay each month’s rent (deposits are not usually requested – but again this depends on individual accommodations).

The first four of above Renting Rooms are the cheaper. If you contact them explain that you are Erasmus students and will be studying at the Epirus Institute of Technology for the designated time period (people in Greece usually refer to the Epirus Institute of Technology with its’ initials e.g. T.E.I., so I suggest use the initials in your contact as they will be more familiar with these) and also you can say that you have discussed this with me (Dr. Mantzoukas).

IMPORTANT Please allow me to make you aware that the University merely proposes these rooms, and does not own these rooms, cannot act as an intermediate in your discussions with the owners of the rooms and will not have anything to do with regard to your renting of the rooms. You alone will directly pay and negotiate issues with the owner of the rooms

(Option 2) Student Hall of Residence: There is a possibility that I can reserve you a room in the Student Hall of Residence, these are public accommodation for University students, the buildings are quite old, the rooms are very basic (not luxurious) and are reserved for low income Greek students. Low income Greek students have priority and during normal term period it is highly unlikely to reserve rooms for you in this Residence, but it is highly likely that I can reserve rooms in this Residence if you opt for summer placement e.g. June, July, August. The prices for these rooms are between 2 to 4 euros per day (depending on the type of room) i.e. 60 to 120 euros per month. Please see below what is included in this offer from the Student Hall of Residence:

  1. One room with a single bed, closet, basin, shower, wi-fi, desk, balcony (it is not included sheets, duvets, cutlery etc. and there is no toilet in the room you share toilets)
  2. Free meals freshly cooked onsite three times a day

The Student Hall of Residence is about 20 minutes walking distance from the City centre and 5 minutes by bus. The hospital is about 15 minutes by bus from the Student Hall of Residence.

Please see below a brief video – as already explained these are not new buildings and hence the cheap price.

Please allow me to clarify that anything other you view in the video of the rooms in the Student Hall of Residence and not included in the above list will not be included in the room (these photos are from students’ rooms currently renting and have their personal items as well)

Please let me know as soon as possible if you wish me to book you a room in the Student Hall of Residence (I will book the room on your behalf) as this books are done on a first come, first service basis.

(Option 3) Renting studios: This option includes a complex of three private buildings that includes a set of studios available prinarily for renting to Greek and Exchange students and are located about 15-20 minutes walking distance from the University and University hospital and 15 minutes by bus to the city centre. The agency that is responsible for letting these studios is Holevas-Homes, Real Estate Agency. The dimensions of the studios are approximately 20 m2, all studios have double glazed windows, they have a balcony and are fully furnished e.g. includes bed, firdge, kitchenette, closet, desk, two chairs, and cooking utensils. The price per month ranges between 200-220 euros. In this price the billings are not included (it is expected that you will need about 50-70 euros per month for all other bills). Also, there is a requirement of one month deposit which you get back at the end of your stay providing that there is no damage done to the studio and there is an one-off fee that you pay to the agency and this ranges between 100-120 euros. Also, if you know another student and you are both willing to share a studio, this is as well an option and will be rented for the same price as above.

Also, one other point to keep in mind if you choose this option is that you are required to have a Greek tax number in order to be able to sign the required contract (same applies to option 4 below), this is issued without any fee and is issued in 24 hours and the agency will assist you with this, but you need to be in person to this and therefore you need to arrange for 2 days a stay at a hotel until all this documentation is sorted out (Byzantio hotel is a 2 star hotel with relative good quality and prices and is next to the office you need to issue the above documents)

Please see below three videos with indicative available studios:

1. Video 1

2. Video 2

3. Video 3

Please contact Ms. Holevas at +306980154412 and also feel free to visit the above web-page. When you contact the agency explain that you are Erasmus students and will be studying at the Epirus Institute of Technology for the designated time period (people in Greece usually refer to the Epirus Institute of Technology with its’ initials e.g. T.E.I., so I suggest use the initials [TEI of Epirus] in your contact as they will be more familiar with these) and also you can say that you have discussed this with me (Dr. Mantzoukas).

IMPORTANT Please allow me to make you aware that the University merely proposes these studios and Agency, and does not own these rooms, cannot act as an intermediate in your discussions with the Agency and will not have anything to do with regard to your renting of the rooms. You alone will directly pay and negotiate issues with the Agency / owner of the rooms

IMPORTANT Please allow me to make you aware that the University merely proposes these Agencies and cannot act as an intermediate in your discussions with the Agencies and will not have anything to do with regard to your renting processes.
